Animated Scooby-Doo Movie

Warner Brothers announced an animated Scooby-Doo theatrical release in the works.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Straight to Video Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

The head of the project is Tony Cervone, who was behind animations such as Duck Dodgers, Space Jam, and Animaniacs. It has been ten years since the release of Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed so maybe the world really has had enough recovery time to allow a new theatrical release… maybe. If they bring back the charm of Zombie Island everything may be okay. The movie is set to release September 21, 2018. Get the full scoop at The Hollywood Reporter.

One Day Late Update: Trumbo Trailer, Hank Williams, and Star Wars Images

First Official For Trumbo

The first trailer for Jay Roach’s new movie, Trumbo, was just released.

This is a bio-pic about Dalton Trumbo, played by Bryan Cranston, and the end of his screenwriting career after being labeled a Communist. The current release date is November 6, 2015. Other actors of note are Helen Mirren, John Goodman, Diane Lane, and Alan Tudyk.

Tom Hiddleston To Play Hank Williams

The first image of Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams was released for the upcoming film, I Saw The Light, based on the book Hank Williams: The Biography.

Obviously Hiddleston has quite the likeness to Williams according to the images above but looks aren’t everything. Bio-pics have more to do with mastering the deeper aspects of the person, and the jury is still out on Hiddleston’s range. Interestingly enough he will be performing himself and he’ll be working alongside his rumored girlfriend, Elizabeth Olsen. The movie’s release date is set for November 27, 2015. Check out any other details at our source Deadline.

New Force Awakens Pictures

Entertainment Weekly just released twelve new Force Awakens photos in their latest issue.

Stormtrooper missing Rey and Finn

Soccer ball being placed in net bag

To a select few, hopefully not many, the top photo reveals that Finn is not a Stormtrooper and so is most likely undercover when seen in the armor. In the second picture they show one of the new species and creatures featured which just helps make everything feel that much more tangible; not to mention we get to see BB8 is more of a practical effect. These are just two of the many beautiful pictures released so be sure to check out EW for the full set. Bonus Star Wars news is J.J. Abrams states that he isn’t directing Episode 9… just like he wasn’t going to direct Episode 7. Read that story on IGN.

One Day Late Update: Storm Troopers, Baywatch, and DiCaprio

New Star Wars Set Photos

This one is a little late but earlier this week photos came from one of the many Star Wars movie sets showing actors wearing the Storm Trooper armor from the original trilogy.

Troopers possibly on the new planet Jakku

Closer look at the armor and helmet

With the surfacing of these new images comes a new question. Are these Storm Troopers what remains of the Galactic Empire or are the troopers seen in the released trailers? They could very well both be or one could be the true Empire while the other is a counterfeit group. Check out our source, The Mirror, to see the rest of the pictures.

Zac Efron In Talks For Baywatch

The new Paramount comedy, Baywatch, could be adding Zac Efron to work alongside already cast Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

*cue slow-mo run*

There are a few items to note here, one being that this is based on the 90’s TV show but adapted into a comedic film. Also remember that Efron as well as Johnson have proven themselves in comedic roles; Neighbors and Pain & Gain anyone? See more details at our source The Variety.

DiCaprio for Devil In The White City Adaptation

It has been announced that Paramount will be moving forward with the adaptation of The Devil In The White City while utilizing a Martin Scorsese Leonardo DiCaprio team up.

Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Robbie working on Wolf of Wall Street

Paramount emerged victorious in a bidding war for Erik Larson’s non-fiction novel after Warner Brothers Studio released the rights for last month. The novel takes place in 1893 Chicago during the World’s Fair and follows DiCaprio’s character, Dr. HH Holmes. For the fair Holmes builds The World’s Fair Hotel that’s sole purpose is to allow Holmes to murder the inhabitants and sell their skeletons for science. By the end he was thought to have claimed 27-200 victims.  A very dark role for DiCaprio indeed and it will be interesting to see him in a clear-cut villainous role. Deadpool Casting News

Even before the great debacle that was X-Men Origins, Marvel fans have wanted a Deadpool movie and after the leaked test footage last year Fox finally greenlit a film. With the movie just within our reach we are starting to get a look at the casting and characters.

Alongside Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, it has been confirmed via Twitter and Instagram that T.J. Miller will be playing Weasel and Morena Baccarin will be playing Copycat, Vanessa Carlysle.

How do I feel about this?

This can only be taken as good news! Coupled with the recent positive remarks Reynolds made in an interview with Shortlist, and a mind-blowing test reel, we now have two excellent casting decisions.

Let’s talk T.J. Miller as Weasel. Weasel in the comics is in a sense Deadpool’s sidekick. He provides much-needed arms and ammunition as well as gathers all the information needed for Deadpool’s latest venture. However, due to Deadpool being a certifiable psychopath with a questionable mental state, Weasel is often abused by the anti-hero. This is perfect for T.J. Miller! Is he always in the best movies? No. Is he always the best part of those movies? YES! Everything about this guy is hilarious from his delivery, to his timing, to his overall demeanor he nails it. This comic book duo provides a chance for some choice banter and could be the anchor to this movies comedic tone.

Then there is Morena Baccarin, who I love, as Copycat. The only thing I really know about Copycat is that she is in love with our protagonist which is all I need to know because from Deadpool’s character I can deduce who she is. A Deadpool love interest needs to be two things; strong as hell to weather the storm that is Deadpool, and of course easy on the eyes. If I’ve learned anything from Baccarin’s roles in Firefly and V, it’s that she is the epitome of female strength. And yes she is easy on the eyes… have you seen her?

I rest my case.

Genndy Tartakovsky off Popeye Project

In a recent interview about his upcoming sequel to Hotel Transylvania, Genndy Tartkovsy revealed that he will no longer be working with Sony Pictures on their upcoming Popeye movie.

He stated that even though he was reluctant to leave, changes in the studio lead him to believe they’re no longer track with the original idea he was working with. Although Tartkovsky is leaving Popeye he is already on to a new project of his own called Can You Imagine?. Popeye was originally being released in 2016.

How do I feel about this?

I’m disappointed but not devastated. Popeye is not a series that resonates with me, I’m not of that generation, so when I heard this movie was coming I didn’t exactly jump for joy. That being said I am a Genndy Tartkovsky fan. Regardless of how you felt about Hotel Transylvania, Tartkovsky is the father of critically acclaimed Samurai Jack, among others, so any project that losses him losses a great talent.

To further the disappointment Sony released test footage of their work with him last year and it came out great. Even though I am not a fan of the show I did find the short clip charming and creative, as well as true to the old source material. At least we still have his new film Can You Imagine? to look forward to.
